Resa's Success Story
Upon returning to work after a week long vacation, stepping into the door of my office I notice a neatly folded piece of paper lying on the floor. A handwritten letter from one of the residents here at Irving Street lay before my feet. She wrote:
"Starting in about 1988 through the present, 2008, 20 whole years, I have slept
in my clothes. In abusive relationships, it is wiser to sleep in your clothes. If you
have to jump up and run outside it is better to have on street clothes. This
morning, I realized I had on a gown. This came about without my conscious
recognition. It hit me like a ton of bricks this morning - I feel safe enough to sleep
in a gown, thanks to Irving Street."
I believe this small paragraph says it all about what we are trying accomplish here at the Volunteers of America, Irving Street Women's Residence.
